The Barbera d'Alba "Valletta" by Claudio Alario is a version aged in barrique and of good structure of this important red of the Piedmontese tradition. Long gone are the times when Barbera was just a popular wine, fresh and fragrant, to be consumed young and brought to the table every day. Thanks to careful vinification and aging in wood, today Barbera has changed face, to present itself as an important red, which can be on a par with the best expressions of Piedmontese enology, without inferiority complexes.
The grapes used to produce the Barbera d'Alba "Valletta" come from the estate of Claudio Alario located in Diano d'Alba. The vines are over 60 years old and are cultivated on beautiful hilly exposures, with low yields per hectare, in order to ensure the highest quality of the grapes. The harvest, usually, is carried out in mid-October and the grapes are vinified with the use of thermo-conditioned rotofermentators. After racking, Barbera ages for 20 months in French oak barriques, 50% new and 50% second pass.
Barbera d'Alba "Valletta" is a structured red, which while retaining the varietal characteristics of the grape, also has a good body and an interesting complexity, resulting from the long aging in barrique. In the glass has an intense garnet red color. The olfactory profile is rich, with aromas of red berried fruit, in particular blackberry and plums, more evolved notes of jam, delicate spices and woody flavors. The palate is broad and enveloping, with ripe aromas, subtle tannic texture and good final freshness.
