Maison Charles Dufour is a family-owned Domaine that produces a range of Champagnes cared for with artisanal attention, aiming to offer labels capable of expressing the authentic and genuine character of the terroir of origin. The estate is located in the heart of the Côte des Bar, where it cultivates about 15 hectares of vineyards divided into numerous parcels, located in the communal territories of Landreville, Essoyes and Celles-sur-Ource. The face of the winery changed in the mid-2000s, when Charles Dufour took over the family property. The arrival of a new generation immediately brought a breath of fresh air. Herbicides and all chemicals for vineyard treatments were banned.
Thus began the process of converting the entire Domaine to organic farming using only sulfur, copper and natural biodynamic preparations. In 2010, the Maison obtained Écocert certification as a seal of its commitment to sustainability and environmental protection. The estate is located in the southernmost area of Appellation Champagne, characterized by soils composed of limestone-clay marls and a rather mild microclimate. The particular conditions are very suitable for the cultivation of Pinot Noir, which manages to combine tension, freshness and structure with rich, ripe aromas. However, there is no shortage of Chardonnay vines and a few plots of Pinot Blanc, which has almost completely disappeared in other parts of Champagne.
Charles Dufour Champagnes reflect the typical approach of the vigneron, who are accustomed to personally following all the work in the vineyard, made even more numerous by organic management, as well as all the cellar practices, which are carried out following the same philosophy of respect from the raw material to obtain wines of crystal purity. Obviously, fermentations are carried out in a parceled manner, individually for each vineyard and vine. Only after a few months of aging are the final blends created. The labels reflect the meticulous approach, which allows the personality of the magnificent terroir of Celles-sur-Ource to be enhanced and exalted.
