The Les Crêtes winery was founded in 1989 in the town of Aymavilles by Costantino Charrère, who, with courage and passion, created what is now one of the most important producers in the Aosta Valley. Costantino revolutionised Valdostan viticulture, transforming it from a hobby into a genuine family business. However, his contribution goes far beyond this: thanks to his example, other winegrowers in the Aosta region have become more knowledgeable, creating a real winemaking movement.
Today the Les Cretes estate is run by the family, who have been dedicated to cultivating the land and making wine for five generations. The rugged, rocky mountains are often inhospitable, but this family, with a great deal of tenacity, has managed to carve out the best locations for vineyards. The cultivation area extends along the Dora Baltea, in the municipalities of Saint Pierre, Aymavilles, Gressan, Sarre, Aosta and Saint Christophe. The alpine climate stamps its influence on the wines every year, making them very aromatic as a result of the considerable changes in temperature.
The range of wines from the Les Cretes winery is remarkable, ranging from international varieties to local grapes such as Cornalin and Premetta, and from extremely elegant and refined whites to fruity and fresh reds, right up to the golden and refined passito. This is a winery to be explored and experienced, to measure it up against the great French and Italian wines or to simply taste exquisite native wines, which are normally less famous.
