The Maison G.H. Mumm is one of the most famous Champagne houses, whose fame reaches around the world today. It was founded in Reims in 1827 by the three German brothers Jacobus, Gottlieb and Philip, heirs to a brilliant winemaking business in their country of origin, and under the far-sighted leadership of their successor Gerorges Hermann, it soon achieved excellence through the acquisition of vineyards in the main Grand Crus, the excavation of 25 km of 'caves' for bottle ageing and the introduction of the Cordon Rouge brand, inspired by the Legion of Honour ribbon. Artists from all over the world, show business personalities, films and royal dynasties have sanctioned the definitive consecration of the Cordon Rouge brand over the course of the 20th century, today completely renewed thanks to the commitment of the Pernod Ricard group, the work of chef de cave Didier Mariotti and the new graphic design developed by the Parisian design studio Yorgo&Co. The red brushstroke that appears on the label, inspired by the red ribbon that represents France's highest honour, is still today, after more than 200 years of history, a symbol of prestige, excellence and tradition.
Today, Mumm owns 218 hectares of vineyards, of which 160 hectares distributed in Grand Cru, including Avize, Cramant, Verzy, Verzenay, Mailly, Ambonnay, Bouzy and Ay. The particular importance attached to Pinot Noir has remained a constant throughout production, in keeping with the traditions of the Montagne de Reims, the beating heart of the Maison. In the cellar, spontaneous malolactic fermentations are favoured and the reserve wines are kept in oak barrels using the solera method, with a total of over 2,000 samples ready to be assessed and assembled by Didier Mariotti and a highly trained team of oenologists. After assemblage, the bottles rest on the lees in the very long hollowed-out tunnels and the dosage, consisting of a liquer composed of cane sugar and old wines aged in barriques, is the recognisable and inimitable signature of the Maison.
The style of the Mumm Champagnes is characterised by great balance and freshness, as well as a subtle body that emphasises the sweetness of the Pinot Noir grapes, the protagonists of all the cuvées, from the classic Cordon Rouge to the vintage wines. All the labels are pleasant, harmonious and engaging, endowed with an elegant and balanced aromatic profile that makes them appreciated worldwide.
"Soltanto il meglio!"
