The "Pico Lunar" Anfora Malaparte is a Tempranillo aged in earthenware amphorae, refined and easy to drink. Malaparte is a small winery in 'Castilla' that operates according to artisanal methods on lands at high altitude, around 900 meters high. This fact guarantees great freshness to all their products and this lively red has this aspect as well. The typical hints of Tempranillo, strawberry, black cherry and blackberry are accompanied by the aroma of fresh tobacco on the finish. Pleasantly 'funky' on the palate, with fine tannins and a smooth sip: a very pleasant wine
Pico Lunar' is an authentic Spanish red wine made from Tempranillo grapes, the most iconic variety of the entire Spanish region. It is a unique bottle that has the particularity of being ripened entirely in terracotta amphorae, a material that allows for a deeper, purer and more forthright profile. This red is one of the many pearls churned out by the Malaparte winery, a small Spanish bodega based in Cuèllar, a municipality in the autonomous community of Castilla y León, which tends some 5.5 hectares of ancient local varieties rooted at over 900 metres of altitude. A unique and scenic area that, thanks to the significant day-night temperature range, allows ripe grapes rich in aromas to flourish. The 'Pico Lunar' wine is a picturesque picture of the area, capable of condensing this territory into liquid form and telling its story faithfully and sincerely in the glass.
The 'Pico Lunar' wine comes from a small plot of land planted in 1988 with Tempranillo vines. The soil is rich in sandstone, siliceous and an abundance of limestone. Harvesting generally takes place late, around mid-October, when the grapes reach full expressive maturity. The winery follows artisanal practices in the vineyard, abolishing all synthetic chemicals and leaving room for nature to express itself spontaneously. Minimally invasive practices are also followed in the cellar, with spontaneous fermentation and absolute rejection of invasive processes, such as clarification or massive filtrations. Pico Lunar' is fermented spontaneously with indigenous yeasts in open casks in contact with the skins for about 15 days. The process ends in terracotta amphorae, where the wine matures for at least a year.
The red 'Pico Lunar' lights up in the glass with a delicate, deep and impenetrable ruby red colour. The olfactory examination outlines a very fine and subtle aromatic picture, consisting mainly of small red fruits, berries, strawberries, blackberries and a pleasant trail of spices and undergrowth. On the palate, it is characterised by a brilliant freshness and a very fine and flowing texture, making for a pleasant and enjoyable tasting experience!
