NIZZA 'MONTEMARETO' MICHELE CHIARLO 2021 DESCRIPTION

The Nizza ‘Montemareto’ from the renowned Piedmontese winery Michele Chiarlo presents itself as a Barbera with a full and generous character, expressing one of the preferred territories for this black grape variety. This wine originates from the eponymous cru of Montemareto, a hilly vineyard located in the municipality of Castelnuovo Calcea, in the province of Asti. Here, the Barbera grape reigns supreme, cultivated by the Michele Chiarlo estate using sustainable practices, with the Equalitas certification, a project aimed at promoting sustainability in the wine supply chain in environmental, economic, and social aspects.

Michele Chiarlo Nizza ‘Montemareto’ is produced with pure Barbera grapes grown on a ridge positioned at 300 meters above sea level and facing south. The soil consists of fossil Sant’Agata marls alternated with layers of light-colored Astian sands, with a high presence of microelements such as calcium and magnesium. After the harvest, the grapes are vinified into red wine through alcoholic fermentation in stainless steel tanks with 10-12 days of skin maceration. Malolactic fermentation also takes place in steel, and the wine is subsequently transferred to large oak barrels for aging for 12 months, followed by at least another 6 months of bottle refinement before final release to the market.

The color of the ‘Montemareto’ Nizza from Michele Chiarlo is intense ruby red with consistent violet reflections. The aromatic spectrum is elegant and varied, defined by initial fruity and floral hints of cherry, black fruits, and violet, giving way to enveloping perceptions of sweet spices. The taste is full-bodied and expansive, very full and round, with velvety tannins that accompany the persistent fruity finish.
