“Lu Còri” by Cantine Barbera is a Nero d’Avola with a Mediterranean, salty and spicy character and a female profile, produced in the Menfi terroir with vinification in steel tanks. It has fragrant and delicate perfumes of red fruits and wild spices, with pleasant mineral hints that evoke the sea. The taste is light, fresh and agile
Nero d'Avola 'Lu Cori' is a feminine and sensual red, a witness to a Sicily kissed by the sun and caressed by the sea breeze. In this Cantine Barbera interpretation, the territorially Sicilian grape variety takes on a finer and more elegant taste-olfactory connotation than usual, eliminating the intensity and structure that often characterises the type. This Nero d'Avola stands out in freshness and loses in muscularity, pleasantly balancing its softness with the abundant salinity given by the location of the vineyards, a few hundred metres from the sea.
"Lu Cori" Nero d'Avola comes from a harvest that usually takes place around the first half of September when the skins turn an intense bluish colour. The harvested grapes are transported to the winery and undergo cold maceration prior to fermentation to extract the most fragrant and fruity aromatic substances. After fermentation, thanks to the activity of indigenous yeasts, this Nero d'Avola matures for 6-8 months in steel vats while a small parcel of the wine rests for about 6 months in Slavonian oak vat and concludes its production with 3 months of ageing in the bottle.
Cantine Barbera's Nero d'Avola 'Lu Cori' is striking for its density of colour, i.e. a brilliant ruby red colour fading towards violet. It smells abundantly of ripe red berries, with blackberries and raspberries dominating, to which are added almost salty aromas of the sea, framed to a small extent by a light sweet spiciness. It is fragrant, agile and snappy on the palate, with the right softness that tastes like ripe fruit. A note of merit is certainly its freshness, thanks to which it takes on a more expressive, intriguing and enveloping character.
