Lagrein Riserva 'Castel Ringberg' Elena Walch 2021

The Riserva "Castel Ringberg" is a great territorial expression of Lagrein from Alto Adige that is aged for 20 months in French oak barrels. The aromatic framework is dictated by notes of spices and red berries with toasty chimes, while the sip is occupied by an elegant, supple structure that flows into a very long finish

LAGREIN RISERVA 'CASTEL RINGBERG' ELENA WALCH 2021 DESCRIPTION

Elena Walch's Lagrein Riserva "Castel Ringberg" is a great taste of South Tyrolean winemaking tradition. From the depths of the region, in the area of Kaltern, rises a winery that knows how to give life to wines with an eloquent and very fine soul. This Lagrein Riserva is a clear example, showing complexity and elegant trait. It comes from a vineyard that has been awarded the additional mention 'vineyard' in recognition of a particularly high quality of grapes and uncommon expressive potential. Careful vinification and prolonged ageing have been able to enhance what nature has offered and what the Elena Walch winery has nurtured with meticulous devotion.

"Castel Ringberg" Lagrein Riserva by Elena Walch consists of 100% Lagrein varietal grapes. They come from the Castel Ringberg vineyard, which surrounds the Renaissance castle of the same name, with Habsburg origins dating back to 1620. That vineyard covers an area of 20 hectares and is the main estate owned by Elena Walch; it also boasts the distinction of being the largest vineyard in all of South Tyrol. It is located at an elevation of about 330 meters above sea level and has moraine soil, defined by the presence of limestone, clay and sand. The climate is mitigated by the presence of the lake and, together with the good exposure of the rows, creates the necessary conditions to start producing quality already in the field. The must obtained from pressing the grapes is placed to macerate on the skins in steel containers, where it also undergoes alcoholic fermentation. Malolactic fermentation takes place inside wooden barrels. This is followed by 20 months of ageing in French oak barriques and long maturation in the bottle.

Elena Walch Lagrein Riserva's "Castel Ringberg" presents a garnet red colour. Its aroma is reminiscent of red berries and plums, dried figs, chocolate and a spicy trail. It confirms complexity on the palate, where beautiful aromatic intensity and a full body emerge. A red with a strong>strong and sunny character, rich and complex like the best expressions of Alto Adige.
