Albana Passito by Fattoria Monticino Rosso is a sweet wine from Romagna made from grapes from a late harvest and attacked by noble molds, with vinification and aging in French barriques. It expresses itself with elegance and richness in scents of honey, dried fruit, candied fruit and withered flowers. The palate reveals an excellent balance and a citrusy sweetness
Fattoria Monticino Rosso's Albana di Romagna Passito is a dessert wine made from the indigenous white grape variety Albana, which has been cultivated in the region for centuries. It is made from a late harvest of grapes, left in the vineyard to over-ripen and to let the berries be affected by Botritys Cinerea. The famous noble mold gives the wine the refined evolutionary aromas that have made Sauternes wines world-famous. It is a wine of extraordinary expressive elegance, with very complex and evolved aromas, well balanced by the presence of a lively vein of freshness, which makes the sip light, balanced and never cloying.
The Passito di Albana di Romagna comes from the vineyards of Fattoria Monticino Rosso. The winery has established itself as one of the best interpreters of the area, thanks to its work in the vineyard and cellar, always attentive to quality. The estate is located right on the border with the Emilian territory, in the hills of the Imola countryside. The vineyards cover about 20 hectares of the estate's total 37 and are cultivated with Albana, Sangiovese, Pignolo and Cabernet Sauvignon. Albana represents the most important grape variety, the one with the most identity and character. Among the best plots of Albana, there is also an old vineyard planted in 1985 and still cultivated with the traditional system of the Romagna pergoletta, a historical memory of an ancient method that is now disappearing. The wines are the fruit of artisanal work still carried out with great passion and attention to tradition.
Albana Passito is one of Fattoria Monticino Rosso's most famous labels, a true speciality of the winery, which has always believed in the Albana grape variety and its great potential. The grapes are harvested in November, when the berries have been affected by noble mold. Fermentation takes place directly in French oak barriques. The wine matures again in barriques for 24 months and ends its ageing with 8 months in the bottle. In the glass it has a golden yellow colour with light amber hues. The bouquet expresses aromas of dehydrated yellow fruit, citrus peel, soft hints of honey, hints of orange blossom and white flowers. The taste is rich and enveloping, with a persuasive and complex sip. The finish is very harmonious and closes with a pleasantly refreshing sensation. It is a passito that wins you over with its great balance and smoothness, ideal to pair with a board of blue cheeses.
