The history of the Hine distillery dates back to 1763 in the district of Jarnac, which is one of the most important centres for the production of French cognac. The distillery bears the name of its founder, Thomas Hine, a talented young Englishman who was passionate about the famous spirit and decided to devote all his strength and energy to discovering all its secrets. Unfortunately, the French Revolution, which took place a few decades later, forced him to flee and abandon his dream. He took refuge in the village of Jarnac where he was captured and imprisoned in the castle. A few years later, after the dark times of the revolution, Thomas met Elisabeth, married her and established what is now considered one of the most famous French distilleries in the world on the banks of the Charente river. Today, after more than 250 years of history that have seen local conflicts, economic booms and busts, and legendary floods, Bernard Hine, a sixth-generation member of the family, is currently leading the estate. With a strong connection to the past and with the secrets handed down from father to son, he produces modern cognacs that are inspired by a long family tradition.

The House of Hine is based on the idea that a great Cognac comes from an excellent white wine. So from the 70 hectares of vineyards, mainly planted with Ugni Blanc vines and located mainly in two Premier Cru regions of Grande Champagne and Petit Champagne, high quality white wines are produced. They are rich in aromas and flavours that recall the beautiful limestone rocks that shape the landscape. The white wine, whether from a single vintage or the result of blending several vintages, is distilled while preserving all its finesse and delicacy. The precision and alchemy of the work creates a dense, warm and fragrant liquid, which will end its production process with a long rest in oak barrels, providing notes of spices, dried fruit and pleasing toasted hints.

The Cognacs of Hine reflect the great tradition that binds the Hine family to the art of blending and distillation. With a pure, original profile and a rich personality, they are characterised by an elegant and intense olfactory spectrum, which varies from year to year depending on climatic conditions and seasonal trends. The distillates with the lying stag (which is the logo of the estate) are nowadays a standard in the Cognac market, to the point of receiving the Royal Warrant from the British Royal Family and being the official Cognac supplier of England.
