Aberlour Distillery is located in the heart of the most renowned Scottish region producing whiskey, the Speyside. Slightly more than half of Scotland's distilleries are located in this area, known for the production of whiskey particularly elegant. Aberlour is located where the two rivers meet Lour and Spey, whose crystal clear waters are used in the production process. Differently from blended whiskey, this single malt is produced exclusively by a type of barley and a single distillery. The age of a whiskey is given by the length of time that passes in the barrels during aging. Some whiskeys reach their optimum taste quite young, some others need a long period of aging to mature fully. For legal terms this period can not last less than three years. In the case of Aberlour, aging lasts for at least ten years and in this case the twelve. During this period, the raw liquid slowly acquires aroma, color, body, flavor and complexity typical of a single malt. Aberlour is matured in oak barrels that have been previously used to age bourbon and sherry, so to add a complex special whiskey. The distillery is sheltered from strong winds and high temperatures, but allows barrels "inhale" the moisture and fragrance of the breeze of Highland. Eye appears amber with golden rays ruby and the nose is very delicate and round, with hints of fruit tending to mature and red apple. In the mouth has the taste of sherry mixed with red fruits with a delicate input and an explosion soon after. The finish is definitely hot, intense, with hints of ash and pepper.
