VITOVSKA CASTELVECCHIO 2023 DESCRIPTION

The impervious and rocky terrain of the Goriška Karst is the home of Castelvecchio's Vitovska, a very sharp varietal and territorial expression. Vitovska is an indigenous Karst grape variety that in this arid and barren environment beaten by strong winds gives wines with a distinct personality. Here, precisely within the municipality of Sagrado, the Terraneo family manages 35 hectares of vineyards surrounded by woods and influenced by the proximity of the Adriatic Sea. All agronomic management is certified organic and the estate is also dedicated to beekeeping, olive growing and animal husbandry.
The Karst Castelvecchio Vitovska is made solely from grapes of the variety of the same name grown on dry, rocky soils characterised by a thin layer of red soil rich in iron and limestone. The rows of vines are constantly buffeted by the winds and are cultivated under a certified organic system. Harvesting is carried out by hand and is accompanied by careful sorting of the bunches of grapes, which are then transferred to the cellar for soft pressing followed by alcoholic fermentation of the must in stainless steel tanks using indigenous yeasts. The subsequent maturation phase, which takes place for several months on the fine lees, also takes place in stainless steel.
On visual inspection, the Vitovska Castelvecchio expresses an intense straw-yellow colour. Aromas of honey, beeswax and aromatic herbs such as thyme compose the olfactory range, combined with sensations of white-fleshed fruit and vivid mineral notes. The taste is fine and elegant, tempered by the excellent freshness and the incisive sapid-mineral component that guides the lasting finish. This is a Friulian white wine that can be enjoyed as a refreshing aperitif or at the table in combination with cheese or seafood dishes.
