The Vinsanto di Santorini by Sigalas is one of those sweet wines that define persuasive and intriguing is inevitable. An historical name, born during the Middle Ages when the ancient Thira Island, following a violent volcanic eruption was completely transformed and took the name of Santo Erini, thus giving the name of Vino Santo, that of wine produced on the island of Santo Erini.
An historical name of the Greek wine-making tradition, one of the few still in existence. It comes from vines over 60 years old and from white grapes of Assyrtiko and Aidani that are left to dry naturally in the sun for 10-12 days, in this fascinating carpet that envelops the land adjacent to Domaine Sigalas the end of summer, after the harvest.
The aging of at least 24 months in oak gives us a sip of great smoothness and elegance, where the yellow fruit alternate, in a wraparound trail, at the nuances of nuts and dried fruit. The final play of sweetness tips and great freshness that makes it absolutely not cloying, and that gives a truly endless persistence.
