SAUVIGNON 'PIERE' VIE DI ROMANS 2022 DESCRIPTION

Sauvignon "Piere" is one of the most famous and appreciated labels of the Friulian winery le Vie di Romans. The famous French semi-aromatic grape variety is among the international ones, the one that best expresses itself in the Friulian lands and is certainly among the most beloved for its characteristic aromas and scents. The climate with Mediterranean overtones, mild and breezy, allows Sauvignon to ripen perfectly and give a white wine that is very pleasant to drink, intense and broad. Precisely its authentic territorial connotation is one of its strengths, which enhances its typicality.

The white Sauvignon "Piere" is the fruit of a bet, which the Vie di Romans Winery wanted to make on the Friulian Isonzo territory, highlighting its vocation for the cultivation of varieties, native and international, historically present in the region. The grapes come from the Piere vineyard, which is located in the Isonzo Rive Alte area in the municipality of Mariano del Friuli. The Sauvignon Blanc vines are about 15 years old and were planted with Italian clones with sparse clusters. The parcel has an area of about 12 hectares and is located at an altitude of 33 meters above sea level, with north-south exposure and soils composed of silica-rich clays, conglomerates and abundant skeleton. Harvesting takes place in late August, and the best grapes undergo a cold maceration of several hours. This is followed by low-temperature fermentation with selected yeasts, which lasts about 20 days. The wine matures in steel tanks on its own, yeasts for nine months, and completes ageing within ten months in the bottle.

Sauvignon wine "Piere" Vie di Romans is a label that illustrates very well the personality of the Isonzo area, with aromatically very ripe and rich wines accompanied by a clear freshness. In the glass, it is straw yellow in colour with slight greenish highlights. The elegant varietal richness of the grape variety is expressed with aromas of white flowers, citrus peel, yellow fruit, peach, pineapple, exotic fruit, gooseberry, and hints of medicinal herbs. On the sip, it is long, rich and complex, with a fresh and harmonious finish. It is a white particularly suitable for pairing with shellfish, fish in sauce, asparagus or delicate white meats.
