SAUVIGNON MORILLON 'GLUCK' WEINGUT WERLITSCH 2020 DESCRIPTION

The Sauvignon-Morillon 'Glück' from Weingut Werlitsch represents a refined and mineral interpretation of the two main varieties cultivated in the wine region of Styria: Sauvignon Blanc and Morillon, the latter being genetically identical to Chardonnay. This hilly region, also known as Steiermark, is located in the southeastern part of Austria, right next to the border with Slovenia. Compared to other Austrian wine regions, the climate here is significantly milder due to strong Mediterranean influences. The term "glück," which gives its name to this bottle, means "happiness" in German and conveys the feeling one experiences when tasting this wine.

The 'Glück' Sauvignon-Morillon from Weingut Werlitsch is made from a blend of Morillon (55%) and Sauvignon Blanc (45%) grapes grown under certified organic and biodynamic regimes. After manual harvesting, the grapes are destemmed and then vinified through spontaneous alcoholic fermentation in open wooden vats with 3 weeks of skin maceration. The subsequent aging period lasts for 24 months in 3,000-liter oak barrels. The wine is finally bottled in a special stoneware bottle without undergoing any clarification or filtration processes and without the addition of sulfur.

In the glass, the 'Glück' Sauvignon-Morillon from the artisanal winery Weingut Werlitsch reveals an amber-yellow color. The complex and intense olfactory profile opens up with sensations of white peach, passion fruit, lemon, honey, and hawthorn, soon joined by characteristic nuances of chili pepper and dried fruit. The taste, dynamic and slightly tannic, is rich and complex, with vital freshness guiding the elegant mineral finish.
