Chateau Guiraud's Sauternes Premier Grand Cru Classé is one of those labels that rightfully enter the elite of French wines. Indeed, the most important international critics are unanimous in recognizing its quality - that places it at the top of the entire appellation along with few other Sauternes -, certifying the excellent work done by the winery, careful to produce it only in the best vintages, capable of continuing a history made of success. A sweet wine endowed with great longevity, however already highly enjoyable now.
Sauternes Premier Grand Cru Classé signed Chateau Guiraud comes from the classic blend that characterizes the appellation, in which we find Sèmillon and Sauvignon. These vines grow in vineyards located west of the French department of Garonne, about 50 kilometres from the city of Bordeaux. Practices certified as organic have been followed among the rows since 2011. Harvesting is done by hand only after the berries are found to be attacked by "noble rot," that is, botrytis cinerea, a fungus that attacks the berries by concentrating their sugar capacity. After that, the must ferments in 90% new and 10% first-passage oak barrels. The final stage of ageing lasts 18 months and always takes place in barriques.
The Sauternes Premier Grand Cru Classé by Chateau Guiraud is revealed to the eye with a very intense golden yellow colour. Concentrated the nose, which asserts itself with a bouquet of enviable scents, where fruit, even tropical and citrus fruits, mingle with spicy nuances from which a slight call of pastry emerges. In the mouth, it is full-bodied, rounded, soft and dense, almost tactile, with a long sip that is appreciated precisely for its particular persistence. A great classic of the French wine scene, interpreted by a winery that can boast centuries of experience in the production of Sauternes.
