The Saint-Julien "Grand Vin de Leoville" of Château Léoville Las Cases is one of the oldest domaine in the Médoc area, incredibly rich in history. The property has preserved intact its original 19th century nucleus, with a vineyard of the highest value, characterised by the presence of old vines that produce excellent grapes. Thanks to a raw material of absolute quality and an ancient 'savoir-faire', faithful to the best traditions of the area, its wines represent the authentic face of a terroir of great value. Its labels allow one to appreciate the elegant and refined personality of Saint-Julien's famous reds.
The "Grand Vin de Leoville" Saint-Julien of Château Léoville Las Cases originates in a terroir with exceptional characteristics, mainly composed of Quaternary graves, which insist on deeper substrates of sands or clays, with pebbles. The proximity of the river mitigates the climate, averting the danger of spring frosts and allowing the grapes to ripen perfectly. The poor soils naturally limit the yields and the few bunches achieve high aromatic concentrations. The vines have an average age of over 50 years and are planted at a high density of 8,600 plants per hectare, 80% with Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% with Merlot and 11% with Cabernet Franc. After harvesting, the grapes of the different varieties are vinified separately, with fermentation and long maceration on the skins. Maturation takes place in French oak barrels, for a period of 18-20 months.
The Château Léoville Las Cases Saint-Julien "Grand Vin de Leoville" is made from the best grapes, which come from the vineyards of the old Domaine de Léoville, located in the area from Saint-Julien towards Pauillac. High-quality grapes have always been cultivated here, in particular Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. The wine is dark ruby red in colour with luminous highlights. The olfactory picture is dominated by aromas of blueberry, blackcurrant, ripe cherry, wild blackberry, soft spices and nuances of medicinal herbs. The palate is intense and structured, with dense tannins and rich fruit, leading into a finish with rich and persistent aromas.
