The Pinot Noir from Cantina Terlano is a red wine that expresses the elegance of the Alto Adige terroir through hints of small red fruits, such as currants, blackberries and mulberries, and licorice. The palate is refined, with light tannin, mineral notes and fruity returns
Cantina di Terlano's Pinot Noir is a South Tyrolean wine that reflects freshness and elegance the best varietal qualities of the noble Burgundy grape variety. Pinot Noir has been present for centuries in Alto Adige, where it has acclimatized very well, so much so that the best Italian versions of this fine red wine are expressed here. The short passage in large barrels makes the wine harmonious and complex without changing its classic varietal profile. Thus the delicate aromas of small berries and the characteristic freshness of mountain wines remain in the foreground, making the sip particularly smooth and appealing.
A historical entity in the South Tyrolean territory produces Pinot Noir wine. The Terlan winery has a tradition of more than a century is manages the grapes from the vineyards of more than 140 contributing members, who own small plots, in particular suitable areas around Terlan, at the foot of the Tschöggel mountain, on soils consisting mainly of porphyry of ancient volcanic origin and sandstone. The sunny exposures, which reach an altitude of 650 meters, allow for considerable temperature changes between day and night, which are very important for obtaining slow ripening and grapes rich in fragrance and aroma. The winery's philosophy is geared toward enhancing the particularities of the terroir, especially of individual crus, to find the most suitable growing site for each grape variety. Thanks to Rudi Kofler's work, Pinot Noir can perfectly express the characteristics of the Terlan area, with a strongly territorial personality linked to the cool Alpine climate.
Terlan Pinot Noir comes from grapes grown in vineyards above the village, particularly on the Monticolo plateau, where they can take advantage of sunny southern exposure and cool evenings with constant ventilation. After manual harvesting is complete, the grapes are destemmed and fermented at a controlled temperature in steel tanks. The wine then matures for a period of 7-10 months in large barrels. The colour is bright and brilliant ruby red. The nose opens with elegant aromas of currant, blackberry, blueberry, hints of underbrush, and nuances of liquorice root. It has a medium structure on the palate, with complex and delicate aromas that lengthen harmoniously towards a finish of lively freshness characterized by a crisp mineral vein. Refined and subtle, it is a Pinot Noir all about aromatic facets and a lightness of sip.
