Pinot Grigio 'The Ramato' constitutes a peculiar interpretation of this grape variety of the Pinot family made by the Friulian production reality Scarbolo. As the name itself indicates, Pinot Grigio is a classified gray berry variety that likely originated in Burgundy from a genetic mutation of Pinot Noir. It has found one of its areas of choice in Friuli, and this has contributed to its popularity in the Italian market, a popularity that today places it among the most widely grown varieties nationwide. Although it is most often vinified as a white wine, when left to macerate in contact with the skins Pinot Grigio yields wines with a characteristic coppery color, as in the case of this label.
Scarbolo 'Il Ramato' Pinot Grigio is a pure expression of the gray grape variety of the same name grown in the Grave area. Following the harvest, the grapes undergo 24 hours of skin contact to extract the aromas and anthocyanin pigments contained in them, at the end of which the grapes are gently pressed followed by alcoholic fermentation of the must in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. The ensuing 8-month maturation takes place in the same type of wine containers and is carried out on the fine lees with frequent batonnage.
Coral pink with orange reflections is the color of Pinot Grigio 'Il Ramato' from the Scarbolo winery. The nose alternates fruity hints of raspberry and wild strawberry, delicate citrus notes of lemon zest and bergamot and faint floral aromas. Fresh, balanced and smooth on the palate, supported by a pleasant mineral vein that characterizes the epilogue of good persistence. This is a bottle that can be paired with fresh cheeses, fish appetizers or fried vegetables.
