Schiopetto's Pinot Gris 'del Pompiere' is a white wine made in Venetia Giulia, made from an international grape variety that, by now, has planted solid roots in the region. Schiopetto is one of the area's best-known producers, specializing in the reds and especially the whites that call this area home. This Pinot Grigio has hints of yellow and exotic fruit, along with very distinctive briny hints. On the palate it is fresh, with a savory almost marine profile that makes it perfect for many different pairings
The Pinot Grigio 'del Pompiere' is a tasty and well-balanced white wine produced in Friuli by the renowned winery Schiopetto. With the 'del Pompiere' line, this esteemed winery based in Capriva del Friuli, in the province of Gorizia, aims to showcase the freshest and most accessible character of the grape varieties that have made Friulian winemaking great, including, notably, Pinot Grigio, produced under the 'del Pompiere' label for the first time with the 2014 vintage. This line pays tribute to the Osteria ai Pompieri, a historic establishment owned by the Schiopetto family where founder Mario developed his passion for wine. It is a coincidence that before the winery became successful, Mario also worked as a firefighter, sometimes using the truck to deliver his wine.
For the production of the Schiopetto Pinot Grigio 'del Pompiere', only Pinot Grigio grapes from vineyards under 20 years of age are used. After harvesting, which takes place by hand between late August and early September, the clusters are transferred to the cellar and pressed with great delicacy and speed to avoid the release of the characteristic coppery color of Pinot Grigio. The resulting must is then transferred to stainless steel tanks for alcoholic fermentation at low temperature, followed by aging for at least 4 months, always in steel.
The Pinot Grigio 'del Pompiere' has a bright straw-yellow color with subtle golden hues. On the nose, lively aromas of pineapple, lemon zest, green apple, peach, and dog rose unfold, supported by hints of salty minerals. On the palate, it shows good complexity and finesse, with pleasant freshness and pronounced minerality taking the lead, without interfering with the overall balance of the wine. The finish reveals excellent taste-olfactory correspondence.
