The Pinot Bianco Riserva 'Vorberg' from the renowned Cantina Terlano is a label with a broad and refined breath that rightfully ranks among the best Italian expressions of Pinot Bianco. Indeed, with its generous richness, extraordinary mineral vein and incredible longevity, the 'Vorberg' Reserve shows the noble oenological aptitudes of this grape variety of French origin, which has found an ideal habitat in the mountains of Alto Adige. Like Pinot Grigio, Pinot Bianco originated from a genetic mutation of Pinot Noir, and because of its ampelographic and organoleptic characteristics, this variety has long been confused in Italy with Chardonnay.
Cantina Terlano Pinot Bianco Riserva 'Vorberg' constitutes a pure Pinot Bianco expression from vineyards located on the southern slope of Monzoccolo, between 450 and 650 meters above sea level. These steep, sunny vineyards enjoy the mineral richness of the soils and excellent south and southwest exposure. Manual harvesting is accompanied by carefully selecting the grapes, which are then subjected to gentle whole cluster crushing. The resulting must is allowed to settle naturally and then set off for a slow, temperature-controlled alcoholic fermentation in 30- and 70-hectoliter large oak barrels, the same containers where malolactic fermentation takes place and a 12-month maturation on the lees. An additional year of bottle ageing follows.
Cantina Terlano's 'Vorberg' Pinot Bianco Riserva has a bright straw yellow colour with brilliant greenish hues. On the nose, pleasant fruity hints of white peach and persuasive floral aromas of broom blend with distinct mineral notes and complex nuances of honey, citrus and herbs. Taste in perfect balance between intense softness, bright freshness and tasty savoury-mineral timbre.
