Didier Grappe's Pif Purple is a very seductive, fresh and lively red wine. Obtained by blending two hybrid grape varieties, Leon Millot and Seyve-Villard, this drinkable wine is truly thirst-quenching and fruity, with notes of strawberry, blueberry and thyme. To drink in company, one sip after another
The 'Pif Purple' by Didier Grappe is a very unique red wine from the Jura region, obtained from a combination of two sought-after varieties, the Leon Millot and the Seyve-Villard, both genetic hybrids. In particular, the Leon Millot is a black grapevine created in 1911 from a cross between a North American variety and Goldriesling, itself a hybrid of Riesling and Muscat. The white grape Seyve-Villard Blanc also originated from the cross between two genetic hybrids: Seibel 6468 and Le Subereux. In general, both the Leon Millot and the Seyve-Villard are favored by winemakers for their high yields and their resistance to various adversities, both climatic and parasitic.
Didier Grappe's 'Pif Purple' is derived from an equivalent blend of Leon Millot and Seyve-Villard grapes, varieties cultivated in accordance with certified organic agriculture principles on soils rich in red and gray marls. Harvesting is done by hand when the berries have reached the right stage of ripeness and is followed by spontaneous alcoholic fermentation, excluding the use of selected yeasts, enzymes, and any other additives. The wine then matures for several months in stainless steel containers and is finally bottled without prior filtration or clarification and without the addition of sulfites.
Ruby red is the color of Didier Grappe's 'Pif Purple', which on the nose expresses crisp fruity notes of strawberry, blueberry, and cherry, accompanied by hints of thyme and peculiar reminiscences of yogurt and fruit candy. The taste is fresh, lively, and drinkable, characterized by a seductive fruity progression. The 'Pif Purple' is best enjoyed served chilled at a temperature of 14-16 °C, even better when accompanied by delicious hard cheeses, such as Comté, a traditional product of the Jura region.
