Pelaverga Basadone by Castello di Verduno tells the story of this extraordinary indigenous grape variety, whose very restricted area of cultivation is limited only to the territory of Verduno, having been grown in the countryside of this picturesque town since the seventeenth century. The company Castello di Verduno has always believed in the great potential of Pelaverga, having planted the first vineyard dedicated exclusively to this variety in 1972. Since then the beautiful crus located in the areas of Massara and Olmi have given birth to wines characterized by an extremely fine flavor profile, able to attract the international attention towards this rare variety. The productive choices taken by Castello di Verduno always aimed to produce wines whose quality characteristics had to be related to the territory of ancient winemaking tradition which it belonged to: a proof for this is the scrupulous attention in the vineyard and in the cellar, with a substantial extension of aging time, to obtain products of great elegance. The manual selection of the best grapes in the vineyard, the long fermentation in full respect of the traditional style, the refining in stainless steel tanks in order to maintain the intrinsic characteristics of the grape are the central operations, implemented by Castello di Verduno, to obtain this Pelaverga Basadone, in the local dialect "Baciadonne" ("kissing women"), for the aphrodisiac power which popular tradition had recognized in it.
