This red Ornello takes its name from one of the symbols of rural life in the Tuscan Maremma. Ornello is, in fact, the name of the long stick used, even today, by the butteri (cowboys) to round up and move their cattle. Rocca di Frassinello, a production reality born from the partnership between the Castellare di Castellina winery and the legendary French family emblem of wine, the Rothschilds, homages the rural traditions of the territory with a powerful label that nevertheless maintains the elegance and freshness typical of the winery's products.
Ornello Rocca di Frassinello comes from a skilful blending of red grapes, where Sangiovese, a benchmark grape in Tuscany, is combined with three international varieties that are at home here, Merlot, Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon. The vines grow using the spurred cordon system in vineyards located about 90 meters above sea level in soils that have subsoil rich in skeletons and clay. Once the berries are harvested and brought to Rocca di Frassinello's winemaking facilities, they ferment for 20 days in temperature-controlled steel containers, then mature first for 6 months in barriques and then, after bottling, for another 6 months directly in a glass.
Ornello red wine announces itself to the eye with intense and deep colour, recalling the ruby hue. The nose reveals itself with balsamic and spicy sensations, enhanced by references to fruity nuances. On the palate, it is full-bodied, ample and full, with a smooth, almost silky drink that presents a rich and satisfying taste. A wine that was created as a tribute of the Rocca di Frassinello winery to the Maremma cowboys, a symbol of hard and pure agriculture, where wine was one of the few pleasant intervals between tiring work and well-deserved rest.
