"Plumbago" is a soft, crisp expression of Nero d'Avola, modern and elegant. The olfactory framework is composed of ripe red fruit, cocoa and sweet spices due to the aging of several months in barrique. The palate is round, juicy and velvety, with pleasant, smooth tannins on the finish
With Nero d'Avola "Plumbago," the Planeta winery plucks only the best fruit from the old Ulmo vineyard, playing with one of the most tenacious and distinctive varieties of Sicilian viticulture, Nero d'Avola. This bottle takes its name from the wildflower, the "plumbago," that surrounds Planeta's historic property overlooking Lake Arancio and is characterized by the vivid purplish colour that unites the flower with the wine as it slowly slips into the glass. A wise management of the woody contributions, balanced in the aromatic context, and a generous enhancement of the tannins present in the grapes make this bottle a faithful companion of Mediterranean flavours and recipes but also a proud thoroughbred to be appreciated in solitude.
This Nero d'Avola "Plumbago" comes from the pure grapes of a great Sicilian red grape variety, Nero d'Avola. The grapes of this variety grow within the historic Ulmo vineyard, located about 200 meters above sea level. Once harvested during the harvest stage, the berries alcoholically ferment in stainless steel tanks, then age first for 8 months in third and fourth passage barriques, and then, after bottling, for 6 months directly in the glass.
"Plumbago" is a Nero d'Avola wine that presents itself with an intense ruby red colour, shot through with flashes tending toward violet. The bouquet of scents enveloping the nose tells of a concentration of fruit, also enhanced by spicy and woody touches. In the mouth, it is full-bodied and round, with a tannic texture finely integrated into the overall structure and with a sip of remarkable persistence. A label with which the Planeta winery confirms its role of reference within the Sicilian wine scene.
