Firriato's "Chiaramonte" wine is a jovial and fragrant expression of Sicily's most important red grape variety, Nero d'Avola. The winery's intent is to create an everyday wine that expresses the fullness of the fruit, enriching its already variegated olfactory profile with a modern interpretation capable of giving it greater depth.
The red "Chiaramonte" comes from pure Nero D'Avola grapes grown on the Dagalà Borromeo estate. This flat area of sandy loam nature gives a rich and complex expression. The Di Gaetano family, which has always been attentive to environmental sustainability, has made the most of the diversity of clones in the area, choosing to adopt organic farming practices. Harvesting is done as usual by hand, and after fermentation in steel and the malolactic fermentation process, the liquid rests for six months in American oak barriques. After further ageing of about three months in the bottle, the wine is ready to be marketed.
The "Chiaramonte" Nero D'Avola Firriato shows an intense ruby colour enlivened by purplish highlights. Right from the first olfaction, it opens with fragrant hints of dark fruit, ranging from blackberry to blueberry, from cherry to plum. A painting that does not renounce spicy brushstrokes, traceable to liquorice and clove. In the mouth, it does not hide its displacement, but its power is perfectly balanced by a fleshy softness and velvety tannins. A sensual wine to be spent with joy on grilled meats and semi-seasoned cheeses.
