The Negroamaro by Donato Angiuli is an excellent value for money red wine from Puglia, vinified and aged in steel. It has fresh and delicate aromas of red fruits and spices and a smooth, direct, immediate and pleasant taste
Negroamaro from Apulian producer Donato Angiuli is an excellent value for money red wine that originates in the San Donaci area of Salento. The name Negroamaro comes from the Apulian dialect expression "niuru maru," meaning "black black," with the former term derived from the Latin "niger" and the latter from the Greek "mavros," referring to the particularly dark color of the berries when ripe. The appellation therefore has nothing to do with any bitter taste of the wine, of which in fact Negroamaro is absolutely devoid.
Donato Angiuli Negroamaro constitutes an expression of the pure variety of the same name grown on clay and sandy soils in the San Donaci area. When the grapes have reached the ideal degree of ripeness, generally around mid-September, manual harvesting is carried out. The clusters are then softly pressed and the must undergoes alcoholic fermentation at a controlled temperature in stainless steel tanks, with 10 days of maceration on the skins with submerged cap. Maturation of several months also takes place in stainless steel, and after a further brief rest in the bottle the wine is finally marketed.
Negroamaro di Puglia from Donato Angiuli's estate possesses a deep ruby red hue. The nose is described by pleasant fruity hints of plum and berries, alternating with delicate floral and spicy hints. Development on the palate is balanced and full-bodied, with pleasant tannin and good freshness anticipating the fruity finish. This is a perfect Negroamaro to drink in youth so as to appreciate its accessibility and ease of reading, perhaps in accompaniment to a tasty roast pork loin.
