MONTIANO FAMIGLIA COTARELLA 2020 DESCRIPTION

Montiano is one of the most famous labels produced by the Cotarella family winery. It is a prestigious red wine, intense and soft, made from pure Merlot grapes. The lands of Tuscia have been suited to viticulture for centuries, and the particular microclimate of the area allows the Bordeaux grape variety to reach full maturity, with elegant fruity aromas and a particularly suave profile that well represents the best characteristics of this exceptional grape.

The red Montiano is the fruit of one of the most innovative estates in central Italy. The Cotarella family has been a protagonist on the Italian wine scene for several decades, thanks to the oenological activity carried out by brothers Renzo and Riccardo. The estate is now managed by the new generation, which carries on the tradition with passion and expertise. The Merlot grapes come from the estate's 15-year-old vineyards, located in Montefiascone and Castiglione in Teverina at an altitude of 300 metres above sea level. The soils are of ancient volcanic origin, rich in mineral elements and skeleton. Harvesting takes place in the first weeks of September. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel vats, with maceration on the skins for a dozen days and with 15% of the must being drained off. The wine matures for a period of 12 months in new French Allier and Never oak barriques.

The Montiano wine, produced by the Cotarella family, is the synthesis of a great terroir, a noble Bordeaux grape variety and the profound oenological culture of a great brand. In an area traditionally cultivated with white grapes, Merlot has found a very favourable habitat to express itself at high quality levels. It has a dark ruby red colour and expresses an elegant and complex bouquet, characterised by hints of vanilla and sweet spices, aromas of small dark berries, currants, blueberries, blackberries, and nuances of officinal and balsamic herbs. Harmonious and persuasive, it has a fine, velvety tannic texture, well integrated with fruity, rich, broad and soft aromas. The finish is persistent and balanced.
