The Merlot Paolo Magi's Cortona "Vion" is an elegant international red from Tuscany. The Cortona area is rich in clay soils that grow concentrated, high-quality grapes under the Tuscan sun. The nose opens with hints of ripe red and black fruits, accompanied by notes of cocoa, typical hints of treated leather and hints of cedar wood on the finish. On the palate it is warm, soft and very smooth, feels velvety in the mouth. Perfect paired with feathered game or wine stews
The Merlot Cortona 'Vion' made by Paolo Magi is a red wine with a harmonious, soft and ripe character, which expresses very well the typical characteristics of this famous grape variety. Merlot is one of the most widespread Bordeaux varieties in the world and is particularly appreciated for the elegance and richness of its aromatic bouquet, characterised above all by pleasant fruity notes. In Italy, it is cultivated in many regions, and also in Cortona, it has found the right climatic conditions and soils to produce grapes of excellent quality. Starting with excellent raw material and thanks to craftsmanship, Paolo Magi is able to propose a very interesting label.
'Vion' is a Merlot Cortona made by a winery in the Val di Chiana region. Paolo Magi cultivates his vineyards in these sunny lands with a particularly mild and breezy climate. The soils in the Cortona area consist of sediments of clay mixed with sand and pebbles of ancient alluvial origin. It was precisely the peculiarities of the terroir, poorly suited to Sangiovese, that prompted zoning of the area, which was followed by a phase of field experimentation to understand which vines were best suited to the area. In addition to Syrah, the main Bordeaux varieties proved to be perfect for particular soil and climate conditions. The Merlot grapes come from 20-year-old vineyards located at about 300 metres above sea level. After fermentation with maceration on the skins, the wine is first aged 12 months in French oak barrels and then 12 months in the bottle.
Paolo Magi's red Merlot Cortona 'Vion' conquers with its fidelity to the grape variety and its immediate pleasantness. The ripe fruit and its satisfying softness make it suitable for those who prefer suave and seductive reds. In the glass, it is a dark ruby-red colour with luminous reflections. The nose is characterised by floral scents of iris and violets, aromas of ripe cherries, small red berries, and plums, hints of leather, vanilla, soft spices and nuances of officinal and balsamic herbs. Harmonious and broad, it offers a rich and intense taste with a very fine and delicate tannic texture. The finish is balanced, intense and long.
