Venica & Venica's Malvasia "Petris" is an intense, fresh wine produced in the wonderful Collio region of Friuli, a small slice of land on the border with Slovenia. The mild, breezy climate and soils consisting of flysch, or ponca in Friulian, provide a perfect habitat for white grape varieties. This ancient vine of Greek origin has been cultivated for centuries in this area with special clones of Malvasia Istriana, with a delicately aromatic, elegant and savoury profile. It is a white with a classic face, vinified partly in steel and partly in wood, expressing floral aromas, rich fruit and mineral notes typical of the Gorizia terroir.
"Petris" Malvasia is produced by one of the leading wineries in the Collio Goriziano area. Venica & Venica is located in the northern area, near Dolegna del Collio, and was founded in 1930. Today it manages about forty hectares of vineyards devoted to the cultivation of native grape varieties and the main international varieties, which have long been grown in Friuli Venezia Giulia with excellent results. The winery's philosophy has always been oriented toward the pursuit of the highest quality, even with separate vinifications of individual plots, so as to enhance the extraordinary heritage of the estate's vineyards. As a result, many labels were born, expressing in a sort of small mosaic the particular characteristics of an individual area, allowing wine lovers to grasp the smoothness of the terroir and choose the wine most in line with their own taste.
Malvasia wine "Petris" from the Friulian winery Venica & Venica is an iconic wine of Collio. Together with Ribolla Gialla and Friulano, it represents the great tradition of whites in the territory. Malvasia, moreover, is one of the most historically important grape varieties in the entire Mediterranean, so much so that today it is widespread in almost all countries bordering Mare Nostrum. At the end of the harvest, the grapes undergo maceration for 20 hours at a temperature of 10/12 °C, protected from oxygen. Sixty percent of the must ferments and then ages on the lees for 5 months in large barrels, while 40 percent is vinified and aged in steel. In the glass, it has a light yellow colour with brilliant golden reflections. The nose expresses a bouquet with scents of field flowers and herbs of the Mediterranean scrub, fruity aromas of peach, apricot and slight tropical hints. The sip is broad, warm, rich and persistent, with a refreshing finish that closes on savoury notes. A white with a great personality, a faithful interpreter of the terroir.
