The Lagrein Tramin-branded Riserva "Urban" is a red wine from Alto Adige, aged in barriques and large oak barrels. The bouquet is rich with notes of berries and cocoa, the flavor is savory, intense and full-bodied, endowed with a chiseled freshness supported by a noble and marked tannic texture
Cantina Tramin's Lagrein Riserva "Urban" originated in Tramin, in the area of South Tyrol, which is vocated for the production of excellent quality white wines. The business began as a shared project of a few families in 1898, directed by Christian Schrott, a parish priest of Tramin who fought to ensure a future for the few winemakers in the area. Over time, the winery's work continued and grew larger and larger, becoming one of the largest cooperatives in the area and an example for the international market. In the 1990s, the arrival of winemaker Willi Stürz made a further qualitative leap, starting the project of selecting native grape varieties and gearing production toward excellence. Today there are about 160 families and 270 hectares fully planted with vines with work behind excellence and attention to detail.
The pure Lagrein grapes of Cantina Tramin's Lagrein Riserva "Urban" originate in vineyards located between 230 and 300 meters above sea level. The exposure is south/southeast with perfect sunshine for a good part of the year, an excellent condition for full ripening of the grapes; the soil is mainly composed of gravel, limestone and porphyry with a small presence of sand and clay. The climate is affected by the influence of cold winds from the north but at the same time, the mild Mediterranean climate from the south balances the temperatures. Harvesting usually begins in mid-October and is conducted manually, taking care of the bunches carried. Alcoholic fermentation takes place in oak barrels, whereas malolactic fermentation also takes place later. It is aged in barrels for about 12 months and rests in bottles for 6.
The colour of Cantina Tramin's Lagrein Riserva "Urban" is a deep ruby red with vibrant hues tending toward purplish. On the nose, it releases delicate aromas of violets and redberry fruits such as blueberry and blackcurrant; in the mouth, it is firm, elegant and pleasant, with soft tannins and an inviting final persistence that entices glass after glass. Perfect paired with flavorful traditional soups, vegetarian dishes and local game; also interesting with medium- to long-aged hard cheeses. Beverino and cheerful, it is excellent for the family holiday table to give diners magical moments.
