Lagrein bears the signature of the Franz Haas winery, which makes it from the native South Tyrolean grape of the same name, which has fortunately made a comeback in recent years. The sunny location of the vineyards in Egna favours the ripening of each individual bunch, which then arrives at harvest at full maturity. And the result can be felt, thanks to a product with a broad and concentrated olfactory range, in which the sip seduces with a decisive character that leverages bright tannins that are both lively and delicate. A bottle that can be drunk young but is likewise capable of evolving positively for the next 3-4 years.
This Lagrein red wine comes from sunny, south- and southwest-facing vineyards located about 220-250 meters above sea level. We are located on the soil of alluvial origin, with a high percentage of gravel, an ideal habitat for the growth of the Lagrein grape variety. The grapes, after careful selection in the vineyard by the Franz Haas team, are gently destemmed, and the berries are pressed. The must ferment in open vats, and to avoid excessive tannin extraction, pumping over and punching down is limited. The wine is then racked into tonneaux, where malolactic fermentation takes place and where it rests for 10-12 months.
The Lagrein made by Franz Haas Winery announces itself to the eye with an intense and concentrated ruby red colour. The bouquet of sensations that develop on the nose recalls ample notes of red fruit, enriched by more floral touches and herbaceous and spicy nuances. On the palate, it is full-bodied, soft and enveloping on the palate thanks to a silky sip, where the tannic texture is indeed felt, but always with harmony and refinement. A bottle with a strong personality, which goes perfectly with savoury dishes and preparations.
