The Kerner from Abbazia di Novacella is a semi-aromatic white wine: a fresh and bright expression of Alto Adige. Pleasant floral and mineral notes, with hints of yellow fruit, engage the senses and introduce a fresh and dynamic sip, with savory aromas on the finish
Novacella Abbey's Kerner is a South Tyrolean wine with intense and aromatic character, which is made from the grape variety of the same name, created in Germany in the 1920s by crossing Riesling Renano and Schiava Grossa. The result is a white grape variety with rich aromas and flavours but also endowed with good structure and complexity. Kerner has acclimated perfectly to the cool climate of the Eisack Valley, yielding wines with great personality and character. This is one of the most famous and popular labels from the renowned Novecella Abbey winery, which has represented the history and tradition of South Tyrolean wine for centuries.
Kerner wine is the perfect synthesis of a grape variety with rich, expansive aromas and the Eisack Valley region. Novacella Abbey is located in the Varna area, in a beautiful natural amphitheatre of moraine nature. It is the northernmost vine-growing area in South Tyrol, toward the Brenner border. The cool climate and significant temperature swings between day and night create the perfect conditions for bringing the white grape varieties of the central European area to maturity. Novacella Abbey has been producing wine since the 12th century and has always been a point of reference for the grape harvest of owners of small plots and farms in the area. In addition to its own 25 hectares, it manages 50 hectares of contributing members. The ability to have many plots in the best locations in the valley allows the winery to produce wines of high quality and perfectly true to the terroir of origin.
Abbazia di Novacella's white Kerner comes from vineyards cultivated in the Bressanone basin, at an altitude of 650 to 800 meters above sea level, with sunny southern exposure. The soils are mainly of ancient moraine origin, composed of gravels and sands, very draining and rich in minerals. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. The wine always matures in steel for at least 6 months before bottling. The colour is straw yellow with light, luminous greenish highlights. The bouquet expresses intense floral notes and aromas of yellow fruit, peach and apricot. The sip is full and rich, with ripe fruit that veers toward soft tropical hints, well balanced by a mineral vein, leading to a lingering finish of lively freshness.
