Poggio le Volpi's Frascati Superiore Riserva "Epos" is an intense and aromatically rich wine made from a partial late harvest of grapes from the varieties historically grown in this area: Malvasia di Candia, Malvasia del Lazio and Trebbiano. The Frascati area is one of the areas that can boast the oldest traditions in the field of viticulture. Already famous for its wines in Roman times, in recent years, it is experiencing a period of lively rebirth, thanks to winemakers who have decided to enhance the extraordinary characteristics of the area by focusing on quality.
Frascati Superiore Riserva "Epos" wine originates on the outskirts of Rome, in the Monteporzio Catone area. The estate covers about thirty hectares, mainly cultivated with the native grape varieties of the area and a few international varieties. The vineyards are located in a beautiful hilly area with a mild, sunny and breezy climate, which allows the white grapes to ripen well. The wines of Poggio le Volpi renew in the sign of excellence the great tradition of the area, with labels that are a perfect expression of the best customs of the Frascati area. These are, in fact, wines of great typicity, which, in addition to the varietal profile of the grapes, manage to bring out a spicy, savoury and mineral vein characteristic of the lands of volcanic origin.
"Epos" Frascati Riserva from the Poggio le Volpi winery is made from a selection of the estate's best grapes. The vineyards are cultivated on soils of predominantly volcanic origin, which are very suitable for the cultivation of vines, and the grapes are harvested after a partial drying in the vineyard. The berries thus reach a stage of slight over-ripening, which gives the wine a soft, persuasive profile of great expressive richness. Fermentation takes place at a controlled temperature in 40-hectoliter oak vats. The wine matures on the fine lees in steel tanks for three months before being bottled. The colour is deep yellow, with bright highlights. The olfactory profile is broad and multifaceted, with aromas of yellow fruit, tropical hints and notes of fresh almond. The sip is soft, round and harmonious, dense with aromas that stretch toward a long, savoury finish. A great white from our tradition to be rediscovered in a new guise.
