The Tibaldi winery offers a typical expression of Favorita in this territorial label: its discreet mineral trail is a direct reference to the sands of the gullies, and the breath of freshness accurately describes the woods that coexist with the Roero vineyards.
Monica and Daniela Tibaldi make Langhe Favorita by vinifying in purity the grapes of the same name that come from their own plots of land located within the Mormorè geographical mention, in the northern part of the Pocapaglia area. The slopes are quite rugged and densely wooded: the altitude is between 300 and 400 metres above sea level, with soils characterised by a sandy matrix and a mixture of sandstone and clay. The landscape is characterised by the peculiar "rocche", or gullies, the crevices carved by the ancient course of the Tanaro river, while the soils have an even earlier marine alluvial origin, evidenced by the scattering of shell fossils. Harvesting normally takes place at the end of September, with selection of the bunches directly in the vineyard and hand picking into 20 kg crates. In the cellar, the grapes are delicately destemmed and kept at a very low temperature for some time: cryomaceration serves to extract the most aromatic part of the substances present on the skins. Once the grapes have been crushed through soft pressing, only the free-run juice is recovered by natural draining, to be sent for alcoholic fermentation in temperature-controlled steel vats, keeping the temperature within 16 degrees. After racking, Favorita matures for a few months on the fine lees, again in steel vats.
The appearance of the Langhe Favorita from the Tibaldi cellar is a luminous straw yellow colour, veined with golden reflections. The nose is fine and discreetly intense, articulated on the herbaceous nuances of aromatic and fruity citrus essences. The premonition of a vivid freshness is consistently maintained on the palate: the sip reveals a fine tension, with a vertical mineral charge and an overall harmony that makes for a smooth and balanced drink.
