The Etna Rosso "Contrada Feudo di Mezzo," from the Sicilian winery Cottanera, is part of a series of labels dedicated to individual contrade, allowing people to get to know and appreciate the diverse faces of Etna territory. Feudo di Mezzo is one of the largest and most famous contrade on the volcano. It is an area that has always been known for its soft-faced wines with generous, fruity aromas that guarantee immediate enjoyment, even in youth. Among the various contrade offered by Cottanera, it is the softest, richest one, expressing the fruity elegance of Nerello Mascalese, combined with fresh and mineral notes typical of the lava territory.
"Contrada Feudo di Mezzo" is an Etna Rosso born within the walls of one of the most famous wineries in the Etna area. Cottanera has been cultivating its vineyards on the volcano's northern slope since 1960, making high-quality wines that perfectly express the personality of a unique terroir. The wine comes from grapes from the Feudo di Mezzo contrada, which is located in the municipality of Castiglione di Sicilia. The vines are about 25 to 30 years old and are cultivated on soils composed of sands and lavas at an altitude between 750 and 770 meters above sea level, facing north. After destemming, fermentation occurs at a controlled temperature of 28 °C and maceration on the skins lasts about a month. Subsequently, the wine matures for 14-16 months in French oak barrels and completes ageing with 18 months in the bottle before release.
