Etna Rosso "Dea Vulcano" is a fresh and fine red wine born at 750 meters above sea level on the lava soils of the north side of Etna. After an ageing for 14 months in concrete tanks and partially in wooden barrels, it reveals a fragrant, mineral and subtle profile, with aromas of violets, berries, liquorice and hints of spices
Etna Rosso "Dea Vulcano" from the famous Sicilian winery Donnafugata is a fragrant, fresh, fruity red wine with a pleasantly simple and immediate character. It is a young wine to be enjoyed for its fruitiness, capturing all the aromatic richness of excellent quality grapes. It is the ideal bottle to approach the complex world of Etna wines and start getting to know their fundamental characteristics. Donnafugata owns estates in the most prestigious areas of Sicily, and on Etna, it manages a property of 35 hectares, with vineyards in six different contrade: Montelaguardia, Statella, Camporè, and Calderara in the municipality of Randazzo, Marchesa and Verzella in the municipality of Castiglione di Sicilia. True to the region's traditions, it cultivates the classic varieties of Etna: Nerello Mascalese, Nerello Cappuccio, and Carricante.
"Dea Vulcano" is an Etna Rosso from Donnafugata produced with Nerello Mascalese grapes and a small portion of Nerello Cappuccio. The grapes come from various bush-trained vineyards located on the northern slope of Mount Etna, between Randazzo and Castiglione di Sicilia, at an altitude between 700 and 750 meters above sea level. The soils are of volcanic origin, rather deep and rich in minerals, with a loose and sandy texture. The climate is cool, with significant temperature variations between seasons and day and night temperatures. Harvest takes place in the first half of October, with a manual collection of the best clusters, which are further selected on the vibrating table before vinification. Fermentation occurs in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature of 25 °C, with a short maceration on the skins of about 8-10 days. The wine matures for 14 months in concrete tanks and partly in second and third-passage French oak barrels, then completes its refinement with 10 months in the bottle.
Donnafugata's Etna Rosso "Dea Vulcano" is the pure and direct expression of the great wines of Etna, in its younger and simpler version, agile and smooth. It presents itself in the glass with a clear ruby-red colour, bright and almost transparent. The bouquet is characterized by refined and elegant aromas reminiscent of red currants, maraschino cherries, raspberries, wild strawberries, floral nuances, and Mediterranean herbaceous notes. The palate shows a medium structure, with a fine and delicate tannic texture and a crisp and mature sip, leading to a harmonious, fresh, and savoury finish.
