Sorelle de Nicola's Dolcetto d'Alba is a medium-structured red wine that is, however, really intense and persistent. It is aged for 12 months in vats and then for a short period in Slovenian oak barrels, acquiring aromas such as blackberry, cherry and violet, as well as hints of almond and liquorice. Perfect with well-flavoured poultry or game
The Dolcetto d'Alba Superiore from the Feyles – Sorelle de Nicola winery is an expression of great typicity of Dolcetto grapes, the traditional grape variety of the Langhe area. Dolcetto was considered a 'snack wine' by local farmers, either for its soft taste or its accessibility even in youth, characteristics that contrasted with the austere character of more traditional Barolos. In modern times, however, this variety has also been appreciated for the production of complex wines that lend themselves to several years of aging, as demonstrated by this Dolcetto d'Alba Superiore.
Feyles – Sorelle de Nicola Dolcetto d'Alba Superiore is made solely from Dolcetto grapes grown within the municipality of Monforte d'Alba, in the Manzoni Soprani plot, right next to the Barolo production area. The plot enjoys an excellent southwest exposure and is managed without the use of herbicides, also developing the rows in height to optimize solar irradiation. Harvesting is done manually at the end of September and is followed by traditional red vinification with short maceration and spontaneous alcoholic fermentation for about 20 days in stainless steel tanks, without temperature control and with periodic pump-overs. Subsequently, the wine matures for 12 months in stainless steel and for a further period of several months in Slavonian oak barrels of 30 and 50 hectoliters. This is followed by final bottling without filtration and further resting in glass for at least 6 months.
The Sorelle de Nicola – Feyles Dolcetto d'Alba Superiore is ruby red with purple reflections. On the nose, there are hints of cherry, blackberry, and violet, combined with undertones of slightly damp undergrowth and hints of almond and licorice. The palate, intense and flavorful, reveals a medium structure and well-integrated tannins, with a persistent finish on typical sensations of wild berries and bitter almond.
