Deminera Sa Defenza 2021

Sa Defenza's 'Deminera' is a soft and enveloping red wine made according to a truly artisanal oenological approach. At the helm of this winery in Donori, southern Sardinia, are siblings Pietro, Paolo and Anna Marchi, the first two mainly responsible for the agronomic and oenological aspects while Anna is more involved in the administrative side. The common goal of the Marchi family is to enhance the expression of their land through sustainable and never-invasive practices while protecting its delicate natural balance. It is no coincidence that the appellation 'Sa Defenza' means 'the defence' in the Sardinian language and derives from the locality of the same name where the winery is located. Instead, the name of the bottle literally means 'of mine', so called because the vineyard from which the grapes come is located near an old mine.

Sa Defenza 'Deminera' is made from only red grapes grown according to sustainable practices on sandy and granite soils located at an altitude of approximately 150 metres above sea level, with south-eastern exposure. The hand-picked bunches are transferred to the cellar and undergo destemming and crushing operations. The ensuing alcoholic fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks using only indigenous yeasts, accompanied by 15 days of maceration on the skins. Throughout processing, the liquid does not undergo any clarification or filtration.

Deminera' Sa Defenza is deep ruby red. The nose is a succession of pleasant notes reminiscent of wild berries and Mediterranean scrub, particularly myrtle, juniper and helichrysum. The soft envelopment on the palate is well supported by the juicy freshness and the ripe tannic texture that anticipate the lingering finish.
