CHIANTI CLASSICO GRAN SELEZIONE 'SAN LORENZO' CASTELLO DI AMA 2020 DESCRIPTION

Chianti Classico Gran Selezione "San Lorenzo" of Castello di Ama is the ultimate expression of Sangiovese, supplemented by a small percentage of Merlot and Malvasia Nera, from one of the most prestigious and famous estates in Tuscany. The label takes its name from its place of birth, the splendid valley where the historic vineyards are cultivated, which have always yielded grapes of superior quality. The result is an elegant, aromatically intense, complex wine of extraordinary longevity. A bottle of great value to be enjoyed among connoisseurs.

The Castello di Ama's "San Lorenzo" is a Chianti Classico Gran Selezione that originates in the area of Gaiole in Chianti. The Castello di Ama estate is located in a wonderful hilly area at an altitude of around 500 metres and produces a range of labels of the highest quality. The wine is a blend of the best plots, cultivated with old vines in the Bellavista, Casuccia, San Lorenzo and Montebuoni areas. The Sangiovese, Merlot and Malvasia grapes are harvested by hand between the end of September and the beginning of October, and after sorting, the best bunches are vinified separately by variety. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature of about 30 °C, with maceration on the skins for about a month and periodic manual pumping over. The wine matures for a period of 14 months in fine-grained French oak barriques, 22% new, and ends its long ageing period with a further 24 months in the bottle.

The Gran Selezione "San Lorenzo" is the most prestigious version of Chianti Classico produced by the famous Castello di Ama estate. A red that exalts the character of a great terroir and the experience of a cellar of the highest level. To the eye it is a luminous ruby red with faint garnet-coloured reflections. The olfactory profile is elegant and intense, with floral scents of violets, aromas of ripe cherries, redcurrants, morello cherries, hints of underbrush, leather, blond tobacco, vanilla and soft spices. With a good structure, it has a dense tannic texture that is well integrated with a generous and ripe fruit, giving a deep and complex sip. The finish is harmonious, fresh and very persistent.
