The Chardonnay from the young project Drink Wines Not Labels represents a fresh and modern interpretation of the world's most renowned white grape variety. Alessandro Salvano is the mind and muscle behind Drink Wines Not Labels, often abbreviated as “dwnl.” This project was born in 2019 from Alessandro's desire to produce wines free from preconceptions and detached from established brands, promoting the idea of enjoying a glass without paying attention to the label. Starting from scratch, without family vineyards and with limited funds to invest, Alessandro works with grapes from the vineyards of his uncle Giorgio Sobrero, a well-known producer in the Montelupo Albese area.
Drink Wines Not Labels Chardonnay is made from 100% Chardonnay grapes grown sustainably in the Langhe region, without the use of pesticides or chemical herbicides. In the winery, the whole clusters are gently pressed, and the resulting must is transferred to stainless steel tanks where both the alcoholic and malolactic fermentations occur spontaneously. The subsequent maturation phase also takes place in stainless steel for a few months, and the wine is finally bottled without undergoing invasive clarification or filtration procedures.
The Chardonnay from Drink Wines Not Labels has a brilliant straw yellow color with delicate golden hues. The nose reveals aromas of pineapple and citrus fruits such as lime and grapefruit, combined with hints of green tea and a light chalky mineral note. On the palate, it is smooth and elegant, with good structure supported by a pleasant fresh-salty component that leads to a persistent mineral finish, surprisingly lively.
