CHARDONNAY COLLIO FORMENTINI 2022 DESCRIPTION

The Collio Chardonnay from the Friulian estate Formentini represents a fragrant and balanced interpretation of Chardonnay, one of the various international varieties cultivated with great quality results in the Collio Goriziano. With over five centuries of winemaking tradition, the Formentini winery is committed to enhancing the expression of the territory by focusing production on those white grape varieties that have shaped the modern winemaking history of Collio, including Chardonnay.

Formentini Collio Chardonnay is made exclusively from grapes of the same white berry variety grown on the so-called "ponca," a type of soil characteristic of the Collio area consisting of alternating layers of marl and sandstone. After harvesting, the grapes undergo a brief skin maceration, followed by gentle pressing and subsequent alcoholic fermentation of the must partly in stainless steel tanks and partly in French oak barrels and casks. In the same types of wine containers, the wine undergoes several months of aging on fine lees associated with periodic batonnage, a technique involving the continuous stirring of the lees to facilitate the release of compounds contained therein, which contribute aromas and structure to the wine.

Formentini's Collio Chardonnay is an intense and luminous straw yellow color with golden hues. On the nose, there are alternating sensations of apple, citrus, yellow plum, and linden flower, as well as hints of sage and almond and memories of yeast. The palate showcases excellent balance between round softness and youthful freshness, elements that combine in a persistent and fragrant progression, marked by further notes of fruit and flowers and a refined mineral undertone.
