The name of this wine comes from the Conti of Cervara, who were the owners of Castello della Sala, that stands on a promontory of the Umbria not far from Orvieto. The Marquis Niccolo Antinori acquired the Castle with its farms and land in 1940. The Cervaro della Sala is a chardonnay winner of numerous international awards and is now considered one of the top of Italian wine.
