Bolgheri Rosso "Ruit Hora," from the Caccia al Piano winery, is a Tuscan red that originates in the Bolgheri area, in the first hinterland of the Etruscan Coast. It is a Bordeaux blend with a Merlot base, supplemented by Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah. In the sunny lands of the Tyrrhenian coast, international red grape varieties have found a second home and express themselves at high levels of quality, with excellent ripeness and a Mediterranean profile. The wine rests for a long time in barriques, acquiring a soft, seductive and complex face with rich, generous fruit and a very harmonious sip.
"Ruit Hora" is Bolgheri Rosso produced in Castagneto Carducci by the Caccia al Piano winery, which has belonged to the Berlucchi family since 2003. The estate is located close to the Via Bolgherese, which runs parallel to the coast, joining the villages of Castagneto Carducci and Bolgheri. The estate covers a total of some 20 hectares in the first hilly inland strip. Unlike the rest of Tuscany, Bolgheri is not a Sangiovese area, which is better expressed in Chianti or the Montalcino and Montepulciano areas. The Mediterranean climate of the Tuscan coast, bright, sunny and always mitigated by sea breezes, is perfect for bringing to full maturity the Bordeaux vines, which have also found soils suited to their needs. Here the wines express ripe, rich, intense notes that make them particularly pleasant and soft, warm and sunny.
The "Ruit Hora" Bolgheri Rosso wine from the Caccia al Piano winery is named after Giosuè Carducci's Odi Barbare, precisely to reinforce the sense of belonging to the territory of Castagneto, home of the famous Tuscan poet. Fermentations of the three grape varieties take place separately, following the different ripening times, in steel tanks, with maceration lasting about a couple of weeks. The wine matures for 12-15 months in barrique and ends its ageing with 6 months in the bottle. In the glass, it has a deep ruby-red colour. The bouquet expresses notes of small dark berry fruits, spicy notes, herbs, floral nuances, toasted and woody hints. The palate has a good structure, with ripe fruit, rich aromas, a dense but evolved tannic texture. The finish is balanced and harmonious. It is perfect to pair with roast red meat, barbecued meats or a mixed grill. Nothing to add, after tasting, to Carducci's words, "o fior del desiderio, aprire i tuoi calici."
