Boca de Le Piane is a Piedmontese wine produced in the province of Novara. Oenologist Christoph Kuenzli together with his friend Alexander Trolf fell in love with this area and decided to take over the inheritance of Antonio Cerri, then 80 years old. After taking possession of the original estate, they decided to expand the initial nucleus with new small plots of land, until they reached the current 10 hectares. With Alexander's untimely death, Christoph dedicated the 'Meridiana' vineyard to him, where the dreams, ideas and plans of the two friends find expression: the Yellow House in the middle of the vineyard is the symbol of the winery and represents the resourcefulness needed for new beginnings. Today, Christoph continues to run his business with a team of 10 employees, bound to the cause and the initial project.
The vineyards of Boca de Le Piane rise between Valsesia and Lake Orta, towards the foothills of the Prelati. The altitude is between 420 and 520 metres above sea level and this area is certainly among the richest and oldest in Piedmont. The Nebbiolo and Vespolina grapes manage to develop their best intrinsic characteristics here: the combination of the two gives a refined final product with unique flavours. The climate is continental with hot, sultry summers and cold winters, often affected by snowfall and late winter frosts; the soils have a low pH with the presence of perfidious gravel of volcanic origin and minerals. Harvesting is carried out manually; in the cellar, alcoholic fermentation and maceration on the skins takes place for 30 days in wooden and steel vats with manual punching-down 1-2 times a day. It matures in large Slavonian casks for 3-4 years; it stays in the bottle for one year.
The colour of Boca de Le Piane is an intense ruby red with brilliant reflections. The aromas are reminiscent of ripe wild berries such as blackberry, blueberry and raspberry, pomegranate and spicy notes of liquorice and tobacco; on the palate it is powerful, elegant and silky with well-integrated tannins to entice glass after glass. In pairing it is recommended with traditional Piedmontese red meat stews, game and fresh pasta dishes with elaborate sauces; interesting with mature cow's milk cheeses. Perfect to accompany the table at family festivities to celebrate anniversaries or important anniversaries.
