BAROLO 'MONPRIVATO' GIUSEPPE MASCARELLO 2012 DESCRIPTION

"Monprivato" by Giuseppe Mascarello is a portrait of His Majesty Barolo. Known to be the king of wines and the wine of kings, Barolo has become known throughout the world for its characteristics of absolute elegance and finesse. "Monprivato" traces the history of this noble nectar in an exemplary manner, enhancing it in every respect. It comes from one of the most ancient and representative Cru of the appellation, counted by scholars among the 11 primary historic Cru. A wise and wonderful blend of tradition, passion, and land, synthesized in a bottle that bears the exceptional signature of Giuseppe Mascarello.

Barolo "Monprivato" comes from the Cru of the same name, located near the municipality of Castiglione Falletto. The vineyard, owned by the Mascarello family, covers an area of 6 hectares at an altitude of 280 meters above sea level. The soil is of Miocene origin dating back to the Helvetian period, defined by silty-clay marls of good structure and rich in active limestone. The abundance of some particular elements in the soil and the exposure of the vines with a southwest orientation make it possible to obtain grapes with enormous expressive potential in the wine, which will be recognizable for particular qualities of structure, aromatic finesse, taste persistence, elegance and capacity for evolution. Harvesting is carried out manually in mid-October. Vinification is carried out following the traditional method, which involves a long maceration of the must on the skins. Ageing takes place inside medium-capacity Slavonian oak barrels and lasts 30 months.

Giuseppe Mascarello's "Monprivato" shows a garnet red colour, slightly orangey on the rim. The bouquet, on the nose, opens with a complexity of red fruit, fresh flowers and a variegated spicy trail. The sip is very elegant, finished with velvety tannins and a fresh streak of great length. The body is full and intense. It closes in an austere and pleasant persistence, hinting at the land of Langa.
