BAROLO 'MARGHERIA' LUIGI PIRA 2020 DESCRIPTION

Luigi Pira's Barolo "Margheria" is a classic version of the great red wine of the Langhe, made with grapes from the Margheria cru. The vineyard is located in the Serralunga d'Alba area, west of the village of Serralunga, almost on the border with the Castiglione Falletto area. In the best tradition of Serralunga Barolo, it is a wine of important structure, a perfect expression of that particular synthesis of powerfulness and refined elegance that only the great Nebbiolo can condense and express in a glass. True to ancient customs, it matures for a long time in large casks and gives a deep, rich and persistent sip.

"Margheria" Barolo is produced by one of the historic names in the Serralunga d'Alba area. The Pira family has been cultivating Nebbiolo since the late 19th century and today manages 12 hectares of vineyards, half of which are located in some of the most renowned Additional Geographical Mentions in the Serralunga area: Marenca, Margheria and Vigna Rionda. The winery's philosophy has always remained faithful to tradition, with careful work in the vineyard and ageing in large barrels, without easy concessions to modernist drifts. Barolo Pira is appreciated by enthusiasts precisely because of its strictly classic, intense and austere face. It is a wine that must be waited for and needs time to express complete maturity and harmony.

Luigi Pira's Barolo "Margheria" comes from an old vineyard about 50 years old cultivated at an altitude of 340 meters on limestone-clay soils. Fermentation takes place in horizontal vats, with maceration on the skins lasting a couple of weeks. The wine matures for 24 months in 25-hectoliter barrels and finishes ageing in the bottle. In the glass, it has a garnet-red colour. The bouquet gives aromas of small red fruits, delicate hints of soft spices, floral nuances, and hints of underbrush and leather. The palate denotes considerable structure, with a dense and lively tannic texture and an aromatically deep and complex mouthfeel. The finish stretches with beautiful persistence toward a pleasantly fresh close. A perfect expression of Serralunga, this is a Barolo for those who love the traditional style of Langhe wines.
