Enzo Boglietti Barolo 'Case Nere' is an elegant and austere red wine, an excellent expression of the Langhe's incredible ability to produce sophisticated, robust and extremely long-lived wines. With a smooth, enveloping sip and a bouquet that releases notes of red fruits, spices and underbrush on the nose, 'Case Nere' is the perfect wine to toast with on special occasions or to accompany important dinners of red meat or game
Enzo Boglietti's Barolo 'Case Nere' constitutes a label with exceptional olfactory complexity that plays on evocative spicy and mineral sensations. The Case Nere cru is located in the southern end of the commune of La Morra, between the Additional Geographical Mentions of Fossati and Cerequio. The name "Case Nere" comes from the fact that long ago houses located here were destroyed by fire. Enzo Boglietti produced the first vintage of this wine in 1993, and today 'Case Nere' is among the 5 crus of Barolo vinified by the estate.
Enzo Boglietti Barolo 'Case Nere' is made from only Nebbiolo grapes grown under a certified organic system. The rows are located at an altitude between 300 and 350 meters above sea level and are planted on loamy, clay loam soils that are sub-alkaline and very poor in organic matter. The grapes are harvested by hand and then subjected to destemming and crushing operations, with the mass fermenting spontaneously at a controlled temperature for 3-4 weeks in contact with the skins. The ensuing aging phase takes place in a combination of new and used barriques for the first year, in large barrels for the second year, and in steel for the final 10 months prior to bottling.
On visual inspection, Barolo 'Case Nere' from the Enzo Boglietti estate shows a transparent and brilliant ruby red color with a garnet rim. The aromatic bouquet is broad and complex, defined by scents of wild berries, rose petals, flint and underbrush that meet clear mineral and spicy hints. The taste is sophisticated, austere and structured, with soft tannins and a long finish. This is a very typical Barolo that pairs beautifully with traditional Langhe dishes such as braised beef with Barolo.
