'Barleith' Tropfltalhof 2020

Tropfltalhof's "Barleith" is a red wine made from international grape varieties, a product of a winery in the Kaltern area that specializes in the use of amphorae. The long period of maceration gives it great intensity and substance, but it is nevertheless a very juicy wine and, despite its structure, it has a very smooth mouthfeel. Intense aromas of wild berries emanate from the glass, followed by sweet spices and balsamic notes on the finish, a complex profile that pairs well with meat cooked in wine and spices, such as wild boar stew

'BARLEITH' TROPFLTALHOF 2020 DESCRIPTION

The red "Barleith" from the Tröpfltalhof is a wine produced by a South Tyrolean winery near Kaltern, known for producing wine with a large social wine cellar. Andreas Dichristin founded his winery in the 1990s when he inherited a farm from his family, which was later converted. From the beginning, he made bold and unusual decisions: He decided to cultivate his vineyards according to the rules of biodynamic agriculture when no one knew what it was, and he decided to make wine in amphorae, a process that was still unknown. His work philosophy is to create a closed system of work: in addition to the vineyards, Andreas raises sheep and grows spelt and corn, knowing that only careful and conscientious work can lead to products of excellent quality.

The vineyard "Barleith" of the Tröpfltalhof extends over about 1 hectare and is located at an altitude of approximately 300 meters above sea level with a south-east exposure, an excellent position so that the sun's rays constantly penetrate the rows, and the grapes ripen perfectly at harvest time. The vines have an average age of about 25 years and are rooted in a soil composed of calcareous gravel, sand and clay that produces elegant wines full of character. The grapes are harvested by hand, preferably in the second half of October, thanks in part to the vineyard's airy location, which makes it easier for the grapes to stay on the vine. In the cellar, the must ferment spontaneously in terracotta amphorae, where it remains in contact with the skins for 7 months.

The colour of the red wine "Barleith" from Tröpfltalhof is garnet red with bright ruby reflections. The aromas are reminiscent of berries such as ripe blueberries and raspberries, herbs and spices such as black and green pepper, liquorice, star anise and a mineral finish. The palate is elegant, enveloping and full-bodied with ripe and perfectly integrated tannins balanced by a final freshness and spice and a pleasant finish that entices glass after glass. It goes well with local game dishes, grilled red meats, mixed cold cuts of medium maturity, and mature cow's milk cheeses. It is a product that perfectly reproduces the authentic flavours of the South Tyrolean land, refining them in every glass; ideal for the family table and romantic evenings in front of the warm fireplace on cold, snowy evenings.
