BARBERA 'VHO' CLAUDIO MARIOTTO 2017 DESCRIPTION

Barbera "Vho" from Claudio Mariotto's winery is a red wine that originates in the Colli Tortonesi, an area of Piedmont almost on the border with Liguria, where this historical grape variety expresses itself in intense and pleasantly rich wines. This is a version of Barbera that exhibits good aromatic complexity. The choice of long ageing in wood tends to blunt a bit the lively, youthful exuberance typical of the vine to favour a more harmonious and balanced face. It is a red that expresses beautiful fruity notes of cherry, black cherry, and seductive nuances of vanilla and spices, which complement a rich and multifaceted aromatic framework.

Barbera wine "Vho" is one of the best known labels of Claudio Mariotto, one of the historical names in the Colli Tortonesi area, who runs a family estate whose origins date back to the early 1900s. The winery has retained an artisanal character and has always focused on enhancing the historic grapes of the Tortona area: Timorasso, Barbera and Cortese. The vineyards cover about 26 hectares and are located at an 'altitude between 250 and 300 meters above sea level. Its wines are highly appreciated by wine lovers for their strong territorial imprint and expressive immediacy of great directness and authenticity.

Claudio Mariotto's "Vho" red is a pure Barbera with a strong, ripe character, influenced by the mild climate of the Alessandria area, which allows the grapes to ripen fully. It is made from the best bunches from the vines grown in Vho, at an altitude of 250 meters with a southeastern exposure, on medium-textured calcareous-clayey soils. At the end of the classic red vinification, with maceration on the skins for about ten days, the wine matures in small barrels for 12 months. It presents a deep ruby red color. The bouquet releases intense aromas of cherry, ripe small red fruits, black cherry, plum, hints of vanilla nuances of roasting and toasting. The sip is lively, with a dense and juicy centre of the mouth, preceding a balanced finish of good freshness. A must-have label to discover the nuances of Barbera di Tortona.
